The power of connections
Follow Your Joy…and remember life is full of opportunities, connections and experiences. Trust me I know.
Sarah and I, the owner of the Book Nook, a very cute book shop near my home town, first connected back in October last year, a result of the power of connections.
A few weeks before, I received a message on the eve of the Manchester Marathon as I sat cosy in my hotel room. It was from my mums best friend, who had a friend, who knew another lady (stick with me) who helped out Sarah in the book shop. My mum’s best friend passed on the Book Nook details and nudged me to contact Sarah.
I did, that same weekend.
Very soon, after that first message, I met Sarah in person – handing over copies of my book to stock in her shop.
Fast forward to last month when Sarah invited me to speak at her mini-book festival.
An opportunity I jumped at and said yes the next day. A chance to share back into the local community, and for me to step into a new Follow Your Joy experience – my first in person speaking event.
Back in September, in the pursuit to publish my book on my birthday, when we hit a couple of hurdles I explained this book acts as the gateway into communities to share and, hopefully, inspire people to take a leap. We jumped the final hurdles and the book was published on my birthday as expected and since I have spoken on podcasts, radio, been featured in the ‘papers’, and written for some amazing magazines and blog sites.
Action creates momentum, and momentum creates action. Action leads to experiences. And Experiences lead to connection, connection provides joy.
And that is my message:
- Be an action taker. Consistently.
- Say yes to opportunities.
- Be open to new experiences.
- Step fully in.
- Embrace the ride, and smile!
-Along the way you'll meet some incredible people.
The mini book festival event was truly a delight. I loved the wee chats at the end of my talk, signing my book, photos being taken – all memories that make me smile today. People like Sarah create a vibrant community through the power of connections.
To the person who controls the flow of opportunities, more speaking events please!
